Our  white water rafting trips for the family are thrilling, safe, and with our multi-talented, seasoned, professional, caring guides you have are bound to have the time of your life!

Our Colorado River trips vary in length from 3, 6, 7, & 8 day motor powered to 6, 8 & 13 day oar powered whitewater trips; with side canyon hikes, swimming in cool pools and camping under star studded skies. The 6 day oar powered trip involves a hike out of the Canyon on the Bright Angel Trail, giving you the "upper" canyon tour. The 8 day oar powered trip has a hike into the Canyon on the Bright Angel Trail to start your vacation.

The time spent on the river provides you with quality time to spend with your family too. Enjoy their companionship, talk to each other. This is a perfect opportunity to have your kids “unplug” - from texting, videos, Wii, PlayStation, all those electronic wonder toys. They need down time too. There is off river time - hiking, dining, setting up camp, playing in waterfalls and side streams. Our rafting trips are great ways for families to strengthen bonds, reconnect - be together and have fun. We provide the setting and adventure – you create and make the memories. Arizona River Runners has run white water rafting trips with groups of children from age 8 to teenagers, baby-boomers and grandparents and each person found the trip unique, exciting and fun.

The Bar 10 Ranch and Arizona River Runners

Friday, April 13, 2012 by Arizona River Rafter

The Bar 10 Ranch is a real working cattle ranch on the Arizona Strip. The ranch experience gives rafters on our 3 day Grand Canyon rafting trip an opportunity to see a different part of the Canyon. Arizona River Runners guests see ranch hands in action during their visit - doing everything needed to keep the ranch operating smoothly and also providing musical entertainment and dancing for guests. The Bar 10 produces their own all-natural, grass fed, melt-in-your-mouth beef. The current ranching operations run approximately 1,000 head of cattle.

In the early years was common to add an airstrip for ease of getting to and from town, which was over an hour away. It was about this same time white water rafting in the Canyon became a popular tourist activity. It wasn’t long before hundreds of people were going down the river through the Grand Canyon, just a short distance from the Bar 10. Patriarch Tony Heaton recognized a business opportunity in the Colorado River; by the time river rafters got to a point near his Bar 10 Ranch they had already been on the river for six or seven days - the length of time most people go for a vacation. Tony offered rafting companies the option to end their trip a few days earlier, and use his airstrip to catch flights back to Las Vegas. He quickly organized teams of mules, and he and his four young sons were soon bringing awestruck tourists up from the river to his ranch on mules, then in a converted school bus to the airstrip back to Las Vegas. Soon, Tony brought rafters to the Canyon for the shorter trips the outfitters offered. It was about 1983 that Tony decided to build the lodge to heighten the river runners’ ranch experience.

In the mid 80's the Heatons set aside the mules in favor of helicopters and quickly saw the numbers of visitors to the Bar 10 Ranch increase. Today the ranch sees over 13,000 guests a year, with Grand Canyon raft trips from April to October. Guests are treated to delicious country-style buffet meals using the ranch's own all-natural grass fed beef. The Bar 10 crew provides evening entertainment, and ranch activities include horseback riding, skeet shooting, hiking, and relaxing with amazing views. ATV rides and helicopter tours are also available (for an additional fee). The one thing that never changes is the genuine, friendly, western hospitality.

Take a 3 day river rafting trip with Arizona River Runners and experience the Bar 10 Ranch and all it has to offer. 1-800-477-7238.

Weather on Whitewater Trips in the Grand Canyon

Monday, January 23, 2012 by Arizona River Rafter
One consideration in deciding when to take a Grand Canyon river trip is the weather. When is it the coolest? The hottest? The wettest?

Temperatures vary in the Canyon just as they do everywhere. You will find the chart below helpful. It shows the average temperature and precipitation for March-October. Humidity is generally low, the water temperature is fairly consistent hovering around 50-55 degrees F during the summer. As the water temp is cold, rain gear is recommended, especially for early season whitewater trips, in the morning, and on cloudy days.

Amazing Scenery - Incredible Experiences on Grand Canyon Rafting Tours with Arizona River Runners
Jon Stoner is a legend with Arizona River Runners, he has been guiding Grand Canyon rafting tours since 1979! His dedication is contagious - our guides are all dedicated to the Canyon, ARR, and making sure your Arizona rafting vacaion is all it can be!

"Being from Ohio, this raft trip in Arizona made me more aware - gave me a greater appreciation of this part of the country.

We had Jon Stoner as a guide and he was tremendous! His knowledge of the Canyon was astounding and he never failed to answer a question. We felt fortunate to have a guide with his level of expertise and hope he will do many more trips.

Many people do this trip for the white water, but being in the Canyon and hiking in the Canyon are actually more memorable. It was a wonderful experience and we're looking forward to doing it again! Many, many thanks to Jon Stoner!"

Camping trips aren't everyone's cup of tea, but with Arizona River Runners, we want you to not just try it, but experience it and enjoy it!Rafting and camping trips with Arizona River Runners may include sleeping in a covered wagon!

"First off I have to say that the trip was fantastic and my daughter and I hope to do the 7 day trip next year! The guides were wonderful - Joe, Riley, Chelsea and Ken, the folks at the Bar 10 Ranch were great as well. I was very afraid to camp in the desert - it was the one thing that has prevented me from doing this earlier and your guides really helped me feel comfortable! Also the knowledge the staff had about the Grand Canyon and its unique features was great and also eye opening! I have to add that I normally never take tours or do group events but this was really fantastic. I have done a lot of backpacking in remote areas (all cold environments) and was concerned we would be put on a schedule that didn't meet our needs - not the case with this trip!

The whole experience was memorable - the remoteness, the way we were handled - the many experiences: horse back riding, ATV, helicopter, sleeping in a covered wagon, sleeping by the river, experiencing different hikes - waterfalls, swimming in the river, the guides, just everything...of course the beauty of the Canyon.

We just loved the experience. The guides were fantastic - the hotel and the ranch were great. We loved the routine and the schedule - very easy to work with. I can't say enough about this trip. It was myself and my 9 year old daughter and we both want to go back for a longer trip and want to bring other family with us. I booked this trip because my daughter wanted to see the Grand Canyon and since I have seen it a number of times just from the car and a short hike, and just thought this would be a great way to really experience it and it was just awesome. We got to experience the desert, the Canyon, the wilderness, a different perspective - one that I never had. The rafting was just another experience - the entire package is what made this such a memorable trip. Can't wait to come back! I had only done a one day rafting trip in Montreal Canada and although the rapids were bigger, etc this trip was far better as it wasn't just about the rafting it was the experience.

I believe the cost was very fair based on what we experienced and services received."

Overwhelmed on a Grand Canyon Rafting Tour

Friday, August 26, 2011 by Arizona River Rafter
People are curious and worry about who will be on their white water rafting trip with them. But it just doesn't matter - by the second day, everyone is just one big, happy family! Grand Canyon Family Rafting Trips

"How can you not be overwhelmed by grandeur and peace of one of Earth's most beautiful areas?!?
We had a group of 12 people, all friends on our raft. Within hours we had 14 new friends from the other raft! Crew seemed as comfortable as old pair of shoes after a day on the river.  This is a first class organization. Starts with people Lyndsay, Kenny, Ethan and Maggie - they were tops! All we could expect. Truly a remarkable journey. Kudos to all!"

The Importance of a Hat on Grand Canyon Rafting Tours

Monday, August 1, 2011 by Arizona River Rafter
What is so important about a hat on a Grand Canyon raft trip? Wear a hat on a Grand Canyon Rafting Tour

Well for one thing you are out of doors every single hour of every single day you are on the river! That means sunshine, sunshine, sunshine - sunshine! You are in "sunny" Arizona, and the sun is unrelenting!

Your hat is your first line of defense against the sun. It protects your face, eyes, neck and head. Bring a wide brimmed one, or maybe one with "tails" on the back - this type can keep the cold river water from going down your back.

Your hat can be your best friend too - no bad hair days on a river rafting trip - perfect for photos!

Bring a hat - there's one out there just for you!

Not sure what kind of hat you'll need, give Arizona River Runners a call - we can help! 1-800-477-7238.

Group Tours are FUN! ~ Grand Canyon Rafting Tours That Is!

Saturday, July 16, 2011 by Arizona River Runners Stories
There are many incredible features on a white water rafting trip. From the food to the hiking, learning about the canyon, meeting people and the guides, all add to the experience. Here is a mom's perspective of her Grand Canyon rafting tour.

"I took my 9 year old daughter on the 3 day adventure because: I do not typically go on group tours; I wasn't sure if she would enjoy the rafting; and although I do alot of backpacking I am terrified of desert camping... well not to worry as we both want to take the 7 day adventure next year! The entire trip was fabulous. The ranch was great - the rafting was great and the camping was the best! The guides - Joe, Ken, Chelsea were fantastic! While camping the guides were very helpful in helping me to keep my daughter occupied with fun chores. The short hikes to the "book of worms," water falls and other places were worthwhile and made it much more fun and interesting. I was concerned about the bus ride - but even that was great - we enjoyed learning about the Canyon and the challenges it faced in the past as well as future challenges. Everything was very low key, we did all of the ranch activities, except the skeet and enjoyed them whole heartedly! The food was terrific and the coffee - really would love to have that everyday at home for sure! It was an awesome experience, I have been to the canyon many times but to experience it from the air, water and land was fantastic! The entire outfit was fantastic and although it was a group tour it didn't feel like one - we were able to be outside the group and not miss anything!"
